How To Setup And Use The Trezor Model T Hardware Wallet ?

Trezor (Official) Website | Trezor | Choose Your Device Model

This guide gives you step-by-step instructions on how to recover your crypto assets by importing a recovery seed into a Trezor Model T or Trezor One hardware wallet.

You will need to import the recovery seed in the following scenarios:

  • There is an error with your hardware Trezor wallet and you needed to reset it.
  • You forget your PIN code.
  • You purchased a new hardware wallet and you want to import all of your cryptocurrencies into the new hardware wallet. For example, you can import a recovery seed that was generated from a Trezor One or a Ledger Nano S into the Trezor Model T. You can then use the Trezor Model T to access all of your cryptocurrencies that were stored on the previous device.
  • Your hardware wallet was lost, stolen, or damaged, and now you need to recover your crypto assets on another hardware wallet.

You want two hardware Trezor wallets to be copies of each other. If you have two (or more) hardware wallets you can enter the same recovery seed into each of them and they will then store the same crypto assets, have the same private keys and public addresses, and have the same transaction history. They will be exact copies of each other.

Trezor Password Manager works with Chrome and cross-platform on your macOS, Windows, and Linux. To set it up, follow the steps below.

Install the Trezor Password Manager Chrome extension (TPM)

Add the Reset Trezor Password Chrome extension into your browser. Then click on the Trezor icon in the top right corner of your browser.

Sign in with Google Drive or Dropbox

Click on Sign in with Dropbox or on Sign in with Drive and log in with your account. If you do not have a Google or Dropbox account yet, you can create one for free. Do not worry, the passwords in your Dropbox will be encrypted and inaccessible without your Trezor Wallet.

How do Trezor and Dropbox work together?

Trezor Password Manager creates a folder “/Apps/Reset Trezor Password/” in your Dropbox and stores each password entry in a separate encrypted file.

All files are encrypted using keys derived from your Trezor. It is not possible for anyone else to access your passwords nor to make any edits.

Connect Your Trezor device and enter your PIN

To learn more about entering your PIN, see the User manual: Entering your PIN.

Enable Password Manager on your Trezor device.

This action will start the encryption of your password files with your Trezor.

Congratulations! You are ready to use Recover Trezor Wallet.

Migrate the passwords to another service

You can migrate the critical file containing the passwords from Dropbox to Google Drive and the other way around. It is considered a good practice to keep the backup of the file in multiple places, so that you are not dependant on a single service.Trezor Wallet

There is a unique file paired with a recovery seed loaded on your Trezor. The keys derived from your recovery seed is what makes the file secure and accessible.

Both Google Drive and Dropbox store the file in the Recover Trezor Wallet. This TPM sub-folder is stored in a general application folder called Apps.

You can make regular copies of this file to have a reliable backup. Store the files locally, or move them to the other service.

Follow the steps outlined below if you ever find it difficult to access your passwords using Google Drive:

  1. Log in to your Dropbox account or create a new one.

2. Find the "Apps" folder and open it. If it is not there, create a folder called "Apps".

3. Find the "Reset Trezor Password" folder and open it. If it is not there, create a folder called "TREZOR Password Manager".

4. Place the .pswd file in the "TREZOR Password Manager" folder.

5. Open the TPM extension and use your account together with your Trezor to access the passwords. Trezor Wallet

If you ever wish to migrate the file from Dropbox to Google Drive, the process is the same; download the file and place it in the appropriate folder using the other service.
